On The Road: With the music industry being in its worst state ever and artists struggling to sell records and earn radio airplay, many singers are finding non-traditional means of promoting and selling records. Last spring, Kenny Lattimore and Chante Moore created the play “Things That Lovers Do” to coincide with their duets album of the same name. Now, vocal phenom Kelly Price and smooth crooner Chico DeBarge are starring in a new stage play written by Tyler Perry called “Why Did I Get Married?”
The production kicked off last week at the Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta and is reportedly off to a great start. Any production written by Tyler is bound to be hilarious. His shows “Madea’s Class Reunion” and “Madea’s Family Reunion” have sold out theaters across the country and become such a hit that the bootleggers are selling his DVDs. Tyler’s script combined with the vocal talents of Kelly and Chico should make for a great mix.
In the show, Kelly plays an unhappily married woman. She meets Chico, falls in love, and loses weight. Chico helps to develop her self-esteem while Kelly works on her self-image. In the end, her husband realizes what he’s lost. “Why Did I Get Married?” will make stops in Memphis, Tenn. and Richmond, Va. in the coming weeks.
