"Nokia Japan representative Pertti Pietarinen recently announced at CEDEC 2003 (held at Meiji University in Tokyo) that the N-Gage would indeed see a limited release in the land of the rising sun. Although no specific date was given, Nokia has stated in the past that they are planning on a global release for October 7th. Perhaps that date now includes Japan as well.
One would think that this announcement would mean that more games from Japanese developers are in the works. However, this has not yet been confirmed. Nokia did say though that more would be revealed at this year's Tokyo Game Show (September 26-28). This could potentially be a good move for Nokia since Japan is a country that is even more obsessed with cell phone technology and games than we are."

This should be interesting. Like most things it does better in the US. Even when it does come out here, I don't think I'll get one. I just got a new cell and well... I'm not going to spend like 1000$ for it.
