Chart "Love" for Mary J.
The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has reclaimed her throne.
Fresh off an appearance on last week's MTV Video Music Awards and a visible promo campaign, the regal one, Mary J. Blige ascended to the top spot on the charts with her new album, Love & Life.
For the week ended August 31, Love & Life ruled the charts by selling 286,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan numbers released Wednesday.
The new disc reunites Blige with one of her mentors, P. Diddy, who previously produced 1992's What's the 411 and 1994's My Life. In addition to Diddy (who surprisingly shouts "Bad Boy" just once on the entire album), other guest emcees included Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Eve and Method Man.
While Blige's 1997 release, Share My World, also opened at number one, her past two albums just barely missed the top spot: 1999's Mary fell 3,000 copies short of dethroning a surging Backstreet Boys, while 2001's No More Drama was overshadowed by Aaliyah's shocking death, which propelled the fallen singer's final disc 18 spots to number one.
Here's a rundown of last week's Top 10 albums:
1. Love & Life, Mary J. Blige (news)
2. Metamorphosis, Hilary Duff
3. The Neptunes Present...Clones, Neptunes
4. Greatest Hits Vol. II, Alan Jackson
5. Drankin' Patnaz, Youngbloodz
6. Dangerously in Love, Beyoncé Knowles
7. Fallen, Evanescence
8. Bad Boys II soundtrack, various
9. Jackpot, Chingy
10. A Rush of Blood, Coldplay

A-IGHT!!!!!!! I knew my girl was gonna top the charts right after her release. I've been playin' it daily since I bought it last Tuesday. And I stand corrected when I thought none of her other CD's could ever top "My Life". But..."Love & Life" is juss as good, if not betta! It's hard to choose a favorite from this CD because they're all good. However, if I had to narrow it down to one song, it would be "Not Today" f/Eve because Eve comes with it! Ol' girl ain't playin' on this song! Anyway...congrats, Mary! You holdin' it down once again!
