JORDAN NO LONGER THE WIZARD: M.J. looks to new endeavors. (May. 8, 2003)*The Wiz of the Wizards is out. Michael Jordan was released from his position as president of the Washington Wizards yesterday after 3 ½ years with the franchise. Team owners Abe Pollin and Ted Leonsis told Jordan about their decision in a Wednesday morning meeting.
Jordan took on another position with the team while President. He came out of retirement to play for the team two years ago. He retired for good last month and, as the Associated Press reports, expected to head back to the front office.
Not so fast, sir. The decision to dump was based on the fact that the franchise has been faltering, player dissension, and deteriorating relationships, a source told the AP. Sports insiders expect Jordan is looking into options with other teams. Jordan is also reportedly looking to be a part of the new franchise in Charlotte.I was shocked when I heard about this on the radio this morning! But whatever the reasons may be for letting him go, I wish MJ well in his future endeavors.

Jordan Statement Thu May 8, 2003WASHINGTON - Here is the statement issued by Michael Jordan regarding the end of his relationship with the Washington Wizards (news):
"I came to Washington 3 1/2 years ago excited about the challenge of turning around this franchise. During my tenure, I dedicated myself to bringing excitement, credibility and my love of the game of basketball to Washington. It was well understood that when I finished playing, I would return as president of basketball operations and this was definitely my desire and intention.
"However, today, without any prior discussion with me, ownership informed me that it had unilaterally decided to change our mutual long-term understanding. I am shocked by this decision, and by the callous refusal to offer me any justification for it.
"I want to thank the fans for the support I received during my 3 1/2 years here. I have never backed down from a challenge, and I'm disappointed that I wasn't given the opportunity to make this franchise one of proud tradition. I will never forget the outpouring of affection I received from the fans." Ah well, there are 2 sides to every story.
