CANDLES TO BURN FOR AALIYAH: Vigil planned to honor late singer. *Our late beloved singer, Aaliyah, will be honored at a candlelight vigil on the second-year anniversary of her untimely death.
Her loving fans will attend the 3-hour event at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY on Monday, August 25 from 4-7 pm.
Ron Hall, who is the organizer of the event and the head of Aaliyahonline.com, moved this year's event to the cemetery.
"The vigil has moved to the cemetery primarily due to the growth we've experienced during last two remembrance events as well as permit issues within the city. Times Square and Central Park were our primary choices however permit costs were a big factor given the numbers we were expecting," stated Hall.
"It wasn't going to be free or cost effective to do it in the city this year, so we turned to the Haughton family for help, and they secured Ferncliff [cemetery] for us."
Aaliyah's legacy has continued to inspire her fans. Hall reported that Aaliyahonline.com has been supported by the fundraising efforts of her fans.
Organizers are expecting a large attendance and website feedback indicates that fans from Canada, England, and Germany are planning to attend. EURweb.com::Sniff, sniff:: I am gettin' chills postin' this. It's hard to believe that it's already been 2 years because I still remember the night that I heard it on the radio right before I went to bed. But like the article says, her legacy will live on forever! I'll never forget ya, Aaliyah!!! R.I.P. Babygirl

Her death touched my heart like she was a part of my family. The first thing I thought about was her mother and her brother and if I could feel the pain of her death I could imagine what they feel. It's hard to even believe she's gone sometimes.

U know I remeber it like it was yesterday, I was at work getting ready to clock in and my cousin who also worked in the same store called me in the breakroom and told me about it. I don't know why but itfelt like it was my own sister that died, I felt hurt and numb and as i got ready to walk up to the front for work I begin to cry. THne something told me to stop it and it told me that it was ok that hse was ok, then I remembered the diary that she had done on MTv and how she said that when she was no longer here, when she was dead and gone she wanted people to remember her music, that was to be her legacy.
In a way I felt then that she knew that her time was coming soon and that was just her way of letting is know. I know that Baby GIrl is in peace now and that she looks down on her fam and she takes care of them . She WAS AND WILL FOREVER BE THE TRUE PRINCESSOF HIP HOP AND NO ONE, NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE HER PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
