Alright...alright you talked me into it...here's the sequel to Till the End...I'll see how you like it because it's one of my least faves...but don't take my word for it read for yourselves...enjoy!
Jenae paced the floor in the living room in a panic. Mark had taken Maiesha and Jared to the City fair and to Chuck E. Cheese to make up for missing their birthday. That was at noon, it was now almost ten o’clock and Jenae had heard neither hide nor hair of them since they were on the way from his mother’s house two hours ago. They went there when the trip to the fair was cut short due to rain and never wound up making it to Chuck E. Cheese.
“Where could they be? Mama Carolyn only lives thirty minutes away.” She reached for the phone and dialed Mrs. Andrews’ number again. “Hi Mama…no I haven’t heard from them yet …I tried his cell phone…I know I’m worried too…wait there they are!” She sighed hearing the garage door open. “I’ll have him call you if he’s still alive when I’m done with him! Okay bye.”
She ran to the garage and scooped up the children in her arms and smothered them in kisses. She looked at her husband who was soaking wet from head to toe.
“Baby what’s the matter?” He asked grabbing a towel from the dryer.
“You left your mother’s almost two hours ago. I though something may have happened to you. It’s a mess outside, you had the kids…”
“I got caught in traffic, there was an accident on the freeway. Then I helped a lady change a flat tire. I know I should have called.”
“Daddy was a weal gen’leman mommy,” Maiesha smiled.
“Really,” Jenae leaned eye-to-eye with her daughter. “Well you and Jared go upstairs and get ready for your baths and I’ll be up in a minute.”
The children scampered off to their rooms. Jenae leaned against the wall grabbing her head as she sank to the floor.
“Baby, I’m sorry I had you worried but I—“
“Why didn’t you call me Mark? Too much has happened in the last week for you not to let me know what’s going on. We agreed to check in with each other!”
“Honey, I’m sorry! I don’t…I don’t know what else to say!” he pulled her up from the floor and into his arms. “My cell phone got wet, I’ll get a new one tomorrow I promise. Baby, stop worrying so much, that letter didn’t mean anything.”
“What about the phone calls and the black car that’s been following me? Someone out there is threatening our kids’ lives and you’re telling me not to worry?”
Mark studied Jenae’s face. Her green eyes had bags underneath them and frown lines were forming on her forehead. He’d known she had trouble sleeping and tried his best to keep her relaxed and assure her that everything was okay although he was worried himself. A woman who resembled Na’Kima was following Jenae around and showing up in the shadows wherever Mark went. They were reassured she was dead and her remains were cremated by Woody who had no sympathy for the “sudden and unexplained” murder of his cousin.
~*~
“Wood, you sure that it was her?” Mark asked.
Mark called James to reassure himself that he wasn’t losing his mind. He was convinced but he knew it would take more than words to put Jenae’s worries to rest.
“My aunt made me go to the crematorium. I’m very sure it was Na’Kima. They identified her by dental records. You and ‘Nae ain’t got nothing to worry about.”
“I just hope that gives my baby some peace of mind. We were doing fine until a week ago when she noticed a car following her…then the letters started.”
“What car? What letters? You didn’t tell me this before.”
“Well a black car has been following her and me around since Sunday. We’ve gotten letters threatening the kids and our lives too. The police say there’s nothing they can do about it until something happens.”
“I’ll look into it with the family for you, just take care and be careful.”
Mark went upstairs and went into the kid’s room one at a time and tucked them in. He found Jenae sitting in the huge whirlpool tub in their bathroom. She looked relaxed for the first time in days. All Mark could do was smile at the sight of her, she was simply breathtaking no matter how exhausted she may have seemed.
“How ya feelin’?” He asked going over and stroking her hair.
“A little better. Baby, I’m just scared. What if some way she’s still—“
“Hush ‘Nae. Someone’s just trying to scare us, that’s all. We’ll get the bastard soon enough. Don’t worry, me and the kids are okay. Nothing is going to happen to us.”
“I hope so.” Her heavy eyelids closed. Although it was the wrong place for her to fall asleep Mark just watched her.
“How can I tell her Na’Kima has a twin sister?” he thought to himself. He knew his wife and kids were in danger but there was nothing he could do to stop Sha’Kira from avenging her sister’s murder without endangering the life of the ones he loved and himself.
***************************************************************************
“Mark you had that girl worried half to death last night. Not to mention me too.”
“I know Ma, I’m sorry. But I was being a Good Samaritan. Doesn’t that count for something?”
“Yes a pat on the head but nothing more. Jenae has been rather jumpy lately, is everything alright?”
“I got a crazy fan stalking me and it’s making her nervous.” He lied. “Some how she found the house and she’s been following the car. The police say they can’t do anything until something happens or property is damaged.”
“Oh, Mark. You make me so afraid for you son.” His mother sighed. “Just be careful.”
“I will…we will. I’ll talk to you later Ma…I love you too.”
“Was that Nana?” Jared asked bouncing into the living room.
“Yep, she said to give you and your sister a big hug and a kiss for her. Where’s your mother?”
“Upstairs with Maiesha. Can I go play with Gangsta and Gotti?”
“Yeah but be careful. I’ll be outside in a minute.”
Mark grabbed the dog leashes from the kitchen and went to the backyard. Now that hey had children he got rid of the rotweillers and opted for another smaller dog. He looked up and saw Jenae and Maiesha in the window. He blew them a kiss and motioned to them he was taking the dogs for a walk.
Once he and Jared and the dogs were halfway up the block, a black car turned the corner and slowly followed them. Mark took Jared by the hand and maneuvered the dogs with the other. His heart started to race as the car inched closer. “Please, not now Sha’Kira, not in front of my son.” he thought as the black Lexus pulled up along side him.
“I would really hate to have to take him away from you, but somebody has to pay for what you did to my sister.”
“Why are you doing this?” he asked still walking not even looking in Sha’Kira’s direction.
“Or maybe I’ll do something to your sweet little wifey. You can’t be with her every waking moment.”
“It’s me you want just leave them alone.” Now he had Jared in his arms and quickened his pace back to the house. He prayed that they could make it home before Sha’Kira did something stupid.
“I’ll get you Mark Andrews, I’ll get you where it hurts. That’s a promise!” she yelled as she drove away.
Mark stood motionless on the sidewalk near his home. Until now he couldn’t bring himself to tell Jenae about what he knew. Gangsta and Gotti pulling at the leashes brought him back to reality.
“Daddy, who was that lady?” Jared asked clinching his father’s jacket a look of fear on his little face.
“Don’t worry about it lil’ man, it’s okay. Let’s go inside.”
“That was quick,” Jenae smiled walking toward her husband to greet him with a good morning kiss. When she saw his face, her expression changed. “Baby, what’s the—“
Mark grabbed her by the hand and pulled her into the living room. Jenae searched his face for an answer but she could see nothing.
“Honey what’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a—” Jenae fell down onto the couch behind her and looked up at her husband.
“She has a twin sister…Sha’Kira.” He confessed. “They weren’t very close as kids and she lived with her grandmother. I didn’t think that it would…that she would—Jenae I’m sorry.”
“Why didn’t you tell me this before? That’s who’s been following me and threatening us!? I could kill you for not telling me this.”
“’Nae, I’m sorry.” Mark went to reach for her hand but she backed away from him.
“Don’t touch me! How could you lie to me! I asked you over and over again Mark and you told me you didn’t know who it was, that there was no one who could be doing this to us. Now I have to watch my every step ‘cause this b**** might kill me and my babies!?” Mark, that’s it, f*** it we’re leaving!”
“Leaving? Jenae!” he gave chase to her up the stairs. A frantic Jenae was pulling clothes from the closets and stuffing them into a duffel bag. “’Nae you can’t leave!”
“Oh bulls*** I can’t! What do you want me to do? Stay locked up in this house all day long with these kids, deprive them of day care so this b**** can kill us all. I went through too much for you Mark Andrews to let it all end like this!”
“So don’t leave me, please don’t take my babies away from me…I need you Jenae!” he was on his hands and knees sobbing uncontrollably at her feet.
“If you need me…get rid of her too!” she demanded.
“What? Jenae, baby do you know what you’re asking—“
“I know what I said Mark, if you don’t want to lose me or your children, get rid of Sha’Kira and you know what I mean.”
Jenae paced the floor in the living room in a panic. Mark had taken Maiesha and Jared to the City fair and to Chuck E. Cheese to make up for missing their birthday.
