Mary J. Blige's days of despairShe may be one of the queens of hip hop, but Mary J. Blige says she was once nothing more than "a piece of s- with a nice weave and makeup."
"I didn't think I was pretty or smart," says Blige. "My dream ... when I was drinking, was that I wanted to be a stripper."
Not that she considered herself much of a turn-on.
Growing up, "I was not a girl," she tells Blender magazine. "I never fit in with the girly stuff."
Having experimented with with every drug but crack, she remembers how close she came to checking out. "I was ready to go! Like, get out of here, planet Earth, goodbye, die. I was so suicidal I would draw men to me who wanted to kill me."
She's just finished recording an album, "Love & Life," that draws on her hard-won experience.
Taking care of her gorgeous bod is part of her new self, but "if I choose to have my cleavage out, you still take me seriously. I might be a brick house, but you respect this brick house. 'Cause this brick house does her job well." NYDAILYNEWS.comThere's no wonda why I LOVE and respect this girl so much! I can relate to everything (except the drugs and dreams of wantin' to be a stripper! ) that she's experienced. She doesn't hide or sugacoat anything; she lets you know the real deal! D n, I'm so tempted to download her CD (even though I'm gonna buy it anyway), but I'll wait...anxiously!!! I've been hearin' that this one is even betta than "My Life"!

That Mary, got it going on!!!!
I think that one of the reason's that I like Mary so much is that she favors my late cousin(tyronda compton aka pun'kin) They look a lot alike. But also because of her realness. The fact that she kept it real with us about school and fulfilled her promise of getting her GED made her more real and lovable in my book.

There is no way in hell anybody can hate on this girl. She's turned herself into a sophisticated, respectable lady and that is why I like her. She's a lady and she carries herself like that. Some of these female artist betta take a few notes cuz Miss MJB, is taken over...

go head Mary. Her realness is one of the many reasons i respect her so much and love her music. She's true to herself, and i'm glad that she has overcome all of the bs she went through in past. She definitely can be a role model to many of our young ladies today.

I read that article this morning! Mary definitely keeps it real! I didn't know you could download it now! Shame, shame, shame! CC don't you do it! ;D I was fightin' the urge somethin' awful not to do it when I, ummmm...accidentally came across a site that someone sent to me earlier...yeah that's it. But her site did provide us with two unreleased tracks from between '99-'01: home.adelphia.net/~nicklouda/berightthere.mp3 This one features En Vogue! I can see all the ol' folks at our next family gatherin' doin' the electric slide to this one since it samples Alicia Myers' ol' school joint "I Wanna Thank You Heavenly Father"! home.adelphia.net/~nicklouda/whenimwithyou.mp3 All I can say is this is classic Mary! It was produced by Erick Sermon. Hot, hot, hot! I guess these two tracks will hold me until week after next. I was gonna order the Japanese import which is being released next week, but I can't pay $50 bucks for it.
