This one is short but sweet....hope y'all like it!!
Devyn waited all morning for the mailman. James had promised her a package two days ago and it hadn’t come yet. He was away on tour and every country he visited he sent her something special. Almost always it was a video tape if they spent more than a day in one place. Finally, there was a knock at the door. Instead of the usual postman, it was a courier from UPS.
“I have a package for a Mrs. Green,” the man dressed in brown chimed. It was James’ way of making her smile without being there. She signed the manifest Devyn J. Green (the “J” for Johnson) thanked the man and rushed inside to open the package.
She tore open the large but light box and balloons poured out to the ceiling. In the bottom of the box, was a sealed envelope. Devyn tore it open and read the enclosed card.
Do you know how hard it is to get balloons into a box? This is only the first part of your surprise. Go to my house and check the mail, something should be waiting there for you.
Love you!
Woody
“What is he up to?” she laughed as she put on her shoes and darted out of the door. It took her only minutes to get to James’ house. She pulled up to the mailbox and took out the mail. An identical sealed envelope with her name on it was the only thing there.
Dang girl you work quick! Go to the address on the enclosed card, the girl at the front desk has something for you.
Getting anxious yet?
“Hell yeah!” she answered out loud. She started her drive to 710 Pine Street. Devyn was unfamiliar with the address and wondered where he could be sending her.
“Plaza Hotel?” she asked herself. In between the hi-rises of downtown was this 20-room hotel. Devyn’s guess was that it only catered to traveling businessmen, so why was he sending her here?
She went into the lobby and as soon as she got to the desk, the receptionist came to her.
“You must be Devyn. I was told to give you this.”
“Another note? She said to herself. She hastily tore open the envelope.
Getting impatient are we?
Get on the center elevator and turn the key. It will automatically take you where you need to go. Hope you like your surprise.
Woody
Devyn bounced around on the elevator waiting for it to stop. She wanted the anticipation to end already. Finally, the doors opened to a penthouse decorated in candlelight and red and black roses. It was his signature scene. She always knew what James had planned if she received roses in that color combination. Carefully she stepped into the room and heard her favorite song…
[glow=red,2,300]Lovin’ you is all I need…never take your love from me…cause I think I would lose my mind if you would go away…[/glow]
Almost instantly she realized that it wasn’t a recording, it was James in the flesh, sitting at the piano singing April Showers. Tears started to form in her hazel eyes as she walked toward him. Devyn just had to touch him, just to see if he was real.
[glow=red,2,300]So I’ll write your name across my heart and proclaim it to the stars above…April Shower me with your love…[/glow]
He opened his shirt to reveal his newest tattoo…her name in script on the left side of his chest.
“I love you Devyn…” he whispered as she gently touched it. He was real, it was real.
“Oh, James, I missed you so much,” she said as she hugged him tightly. It had been six months since they’d last touched
“I missed you too, why do you think I’m here? Do you really think I’d miss my baby’s birthday?”
In all the events of the day, Devyn forgot about her own birthday.
“You remembered.”
“Of course I did, love.” He went over to the wet bar and pulled out a single cupcake. Lighting the candle he sat face-to-face with Devyn. “Go ahead baby make a wish.”
She blew out the candle and kissed him softly on the lips. “It already came true the day I met you.”
