Two Teens Killed Playing 'Chicken' In Traffic
Witnesses Saw Them Darting In And Out Of PCH
LOS ANGELES -- Two teenagers running in and out of traffic in an apparent game of chicken on Pacific Coast Highway were struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle.
Frank Anthony Reynosa, 18, and Abiu Pineda, 19, both of suburban North Hollywood, were hit by a GMC Yukon at about 11 p.m. Sunday on PCH just east of Corral Canyon Road, investigators said.
Based on their behavior prior to the collision, it appeared the youths were intoxicated, said Detective Robert Evans of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
"Prior to the collision, we got two mobile phone reports that two guys matching the description (of the victims) were running out in the roadway in front of cars, like they were playing chicken," Evans said Monday.
The driver of the Yukon, whose name wasn't released, told deputies he saw the youths, braked and swerved, but was unable to avoid hitting them.
Autopsies were planned to determine if the victims were under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
