Woman killed in dispute concerning dinner
NEW YORK (AP) - A 74-year-old woman died after she was stabbed several times and beaten during a fight with her daughter-in-law over dinner, police said Sunday.
Farida Begum was stabbed with a kitchen knife, had one finger severed and suffered a fractured skull Saturday evening at the home she shared with her daughter-in-law in the Elmhurst neighborhood of Queens, police said.
Begum was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center where she died at 5 a.m. Sunday. Her daughter-in-law, Ayesha Akter, 32, was arrested and faced a charge of second-degree murder.
Begum and Akter had allegedly gotten into an argument over dinner, but police did not know what it concerned.
The investigation was ongoing.
