Solange Knowles May Be Joining Destiny's Child--06/30/2003
Solange Knowles, the younger sister of superstar Beyonce Knowles, may be joining Destiny's Child, according to MTV.com. Previously, the girl's father and manager, Matthew Knowles, said that Destiny's Child would be returning as a quartet and suggested that Solange may step in as the new fourth member.
Matthew Knowles said that so far fans have been receptive to the idea, adding, "And judging by what I've heard, it seems like a good idea."
Destiny's Child is scheduled to reconvene in 2004, although Beyonce's recently released solo effort, Dangerously In Love, may become a phenomenal success. Beyonce told MTV that as long as she is friends with group members Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland, there will be a Destiny's Child, saying, "The point is I love Kelly and I love Michelle, and we're friends, and I love performing with them on stage. We support each other. And I love being in Destiny's Child. That's why I've been in Destiny's Child for nine years. I don't care how many records I sell. I'm still doing another album with them because I enjoy being in the group, and I enjoy being in the studio. And the only way I won't record with them is if we aren't friends anymore, and I don't see that happening."
Destiny's Child was initially a quartet with four members: Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaToya Luckett, and LaTavia Roberson. Luckett and Roberson left the group and were replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin. Franklin subsequently left the group and members Knowles, Rowland, and Williams remained.
Solange has appeared with the group in the past. Not only has she opened for the group, but she filled in when Rowland broke two toes in 2000. Solange also released her solo debut, Solo Star, earlier this year. At the time, LAUNCH asked the young singer what it was like to be in such a musical family, and she said that the most important thing was establishing yourself. "You kind of want to establish yourself, and not like uh, the Jackson Three, or Five, (laughter) or whatever you want to call it,” Solange said. “But it's definitely wonderful to be in a family that is in an environment where everyone can relate and everyone can support each other."
She can't be fo' real on this?!!!
Anyway, it was only a matter of time before this actually happened. ::Twirling finger in air:: Whoopeeee!!!
