Luther Vandross Wakes Up From Coma - Singer Suffered Stroke In April
There's a positive medical development about singer Luther Vandross.
A spokeswoman for his label, J Records, said Vandross recently came out of the coma he's been in since suffering a stroke April 16 at his New York home.
People magazine quoted family and friends saying Vandross can mouth words and nod his head. He can't try to speak yet because he still has a tracheotomy tube in his throat. They also said he has begun mild physical therapy.
According to The Associated Press, the singer's mother, Mary Vandross said this week, "Luther is going to be just fine. This is God's way of saying, 'You're tired.'"
Vandross, 52, had been listed in critical but stable condition at Weill Cornell Medical College of New York Presbyterian Hospital.
The Grammy Award-winning soul singer is known for such ballads as "Here and Now" and "A House is Not a Home."
His new album "Dance With My Father" -- a tribute to his late father -- will be released Tuesday.
This is wonderful news!!! ;D I, for one, will continue to keep him in my prayers. Continue to get well, Luther!

[glow=red,2,300]**UPDATE**[/glow] Vandross Visually Tracks Music On Charts--Singer's New Album Out TuesdayA stroke and coma have not stopped singer Luther Vandross from tracking the progress of his music with his fans.
According to The Associated Press, an assistant of Vandross said he showed the singer a copy of a music industry magazine so he could see how his new single, "Dance With My Father," is doing. He says Vandross followed along with his eyes to see that the song's success is growing.
Before his stroke, Vandross said the album was his best work ever.
With the exception of his 1998 album, "I Know," all of his albums have sold at least 1 million copies.I can feel myself filling up juss readin' about this! The news of his continued progress proves juss how powerful prayer is! ;D I cannot wait to go pick up his CD after work!!! I heard his new song with Beyonce' "Closer to You" on Tom Joyner this mornin' and I was blown away by it! Beyonce', IMO, sounds much better doin' ballads. Still love and prayin' for ya, Luther!

[glow=red,2,300]**ANOTHER UPDATE**[/glow] Vandross to I.C.U.: See-Ya! First, the R&B crooner's latest album came out. Then, Vandross got moved out--of the intensive care unit.
In a statement Thursday, business manager Carmen Romano said Vandross, slowly emerging from a stroke-induced coma, "continues to improve and...is more and more responsive each day."
"I feel as though I am watching a modern-day miracle," Romano said.
Vandross, 52, had been listed as critical, but stable since his admittance to New York's Weill Cornell Medical Center on April 16. But his condition now has been upgraded to stable, according to the Associated Press.
It was not known exactly when Vandross was given the all-clear to vacate the I.C.U., although it appears it have happened in the wake of Tuesday's release of Dance with My Father.
J Records spokeswoman Lois Najarian told the wire service that Vandross smiled when he heard Wednesday that the album's title track, a tribute to his parents, was a local radio station's most requested tune.Awwwwwwww!!! The news juss seems to get better and better everyday!
