The Washington Post reports Alicia Keys was on Capitol Hill yesterday talking to Rep. Henry Hyde (R-Ill.), among others, about her experience meeting AIDS sufferers in Africa. "They played it very cool, very Hillish, very D.C.," Keys said about her congressional conversation. "I saw the amount of poverty and the people living with AIDS. People my age, people younger, babies who are orphans because AIDS has taken their parents' life. It's incredible what's going on and we're just sitting here chillin'."
As MTV reports, the two remaining members of TLC, T-Boz and Chilli, have launched an HIV education initiative called “Dialogs: Education and Treatment for a Well Planned Future.”
The two are featured at the website for the campaign, www.HIV-Dialogs.com, which hopes to educate about the virus and treatment.I commend them for making others aware of this very real disease which has hit close to home for me. I lost a friend and a very young relative from it. Not to mention that where I work, we have a large number of clients that suffer from it. That's why, whenever I hear of a fundraiser in my area that supports it, I donate what I have to spare. Hopefully, one day in the near future, there will finally be a cure for this disease.
