50 Cent, DMX, Ja Rule, Jay-Z & Others Featured On New 'Beef' DVD (6/4/03, 5 p.m. ET)
Ving Rhames has been tapped to narrate, Beef, a new documentary which will focus on classic hip-hop battles and feature exclusive performances from 50 Cent, DMX, Ja Rule, Mobb Deep, Ice-T, Dr. Dre, Common, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill, N.W.A., Treach, Mack 10, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Jay-Z, Nas, KRS-One, M.C. Shan, Busy Bee, and Kool Moe Dee.
Beef, which will be released in September, was executive produced by Quincy "QD3" Jones, III. The documentary will focus on the following lyrical battles: 50 Cent vs. Ja Rule, Jay-Z vs. Nas, Tupac vs. Biggie, Common vs. Westside Connection, Ice Cube vs. NWA, KRS-One vs. Nelly, and Ice-T vs. LL Cool J.
Lately many rappers have been going after each other musically. According to Ja Rule, it's because some rappers prefer to generate a buzz through controversy instead of by creating a hit. "It's comical," Ja Rule said. "The whole rap game is just everybody wants to have a beef but I think really everybody is just picking somebody to beef with cause record sales are like that. Nobody wants to work hard. Nobody wants to concentrate on going in and making that pure hit."
::Slowly raising hand:: I hear what Ja Rule is sayin', really I do...but er uh, why is he feeding into it? I thought he had decided to lay low and not be a part of the dissin' anymore after his last record to 50 and some more folks. But I recently heard that he's comin' back and he's already made another diss record aimed at his enemies. I'm confruzed!!!
Anyway, I didn't know Common was involved in a beef with Westside Connection! Guess you learn somethin' new everyday. But juss when it looks like things were beginnin' to die down and get back to normal, here's a DVD to get the ball rollin' again.
Ho hum!
