Ticketed for Sitting on Milk CrateNEW YORK (Reuters) - Some New Yorkers make the news for taking a stand. Jesse Taveras is suddenly famous for taking a seat.
The 19-year-old Bronx man was pictured on the front page of the Daily News on Tuesday after he received a summons for sitting on a milk crate in front of the hair- braiding salon where he works.
"Unauthorized use of a milk crate" may not be high on the list of crimes that most New Yorkers worry about, but that is what Taveras was charged with in a police summons issued on Sunday.
New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly defended the police action on Tuesday. The area of the Bronx where the unauthorized sitting took place has been designated a high-crime area and police try to discourage loitering there.
"The officer is well-respected," Kelly told reporters.Okay, I can understand if the po-po wants to discourage loitering in high-crime areas, but why give the guy a ticket if he wanted to take a quick break by sitting on a lil' ol' milk crate in front of HIS place of employment. It wasn't like he was calling attention to himself or anything, d n! Its because they didn't get their Krispy Kreme doughnuts that day so they were mad and decided to give the guy a ticket. It kinda reminds me of the 5-0 in mtl. One of my brother's friends was given a 100$ ticket because he covered the "Je Me Souviens" on the quebec lisence plate. In this case, no Krispy Kremes caused this.
