Lene and Alex pulled up into their mothers' driveway the next day. Earlier that morning Lene found out that her father would be over to put together an entertainment center for her mother. As the two sat in the car, they both began to think about the events that were about to take place. Lene was still a little hesitant about doing this, but she agreed to for her sister.
"You sure you're ready to do this?" asked Lene looking over at Alex.
"If I don't do it now, I'll never will." said Alex rubbing her hands.
"Okay, so I'll go in and talk to mom and David and I'll let them know that I have someone that wants to see them."
"Right, and then I'll come in and we'll see what happens from there."
"Okay, I'll be back." said Lene climbing out of the car. Her nerves were on end. Her sister was about to confront the very people she ran away from.
"Hey Lene." said Sheila hugging her daughter.
"Hey ma." said Lene walking into the house.
"David's still here if you want to know." said Sheila shutting the door.
"I know, I saw his car in the drive-way when I pulled up." said Lene walking into the living room.
"Hey baby...Charlene." said David walking out of the kitchen.
"Hello David, look, I need to talk to you and mom for a minute."
"Okay, is something wrong?" asked Sheila sitting down on her sofa.
"Uh no, but there's something that we really need to get settled."
"I agree, I can't stand the thought of my own daughter not wanting me to be in her life." said David getting right to the subject.
"Look David, I'm not here for you. You and I have nothing to talk about. But there is someone that wants to talk with the two of you."
"Charlene please. Your father just wants to make things right." pleaded Sheila.
"Hold on Sheila, she said someone's here to speak with us. Who is it?" asked David.
"Hold on let me call them." said Lene pulling out her cell phone. She then text messaged her sister to go ahead and come in.
"Them?" asked Sheila.
"You'll see in a minute." said Lene just then the doorbell rang, "I'll get it."
"What's going on?" asked David.
"I'm just as much in the dark as you are." said Sheila shaking her head.
"Mom, David, this is Alex." said Lene as she and Alex walked hand in hand into the living room.
"Hi." said Alex quietly. She felt like she was about the throw up.
"Alex?" asked Sheila.
"Yes momma." said Alex her eyes beginning to tear up.
"Lene if this a joke, it's not funny." said David. He didn't know what to feel.
"No David, this is not a joke. This Alex, your oldest child."
"It can't be." said Sheila tears streaming down her face.
"I'm telling you Charlene this is not a joke!" shouted David, he thought she was playing some sick joke on him.
"No daddy, it's me, it's really me." cried Alex.
"But how? Wha....Alex?" cried Sheila.
"Oh momma, I've misse you so much." said Alex as she ran into her mothers arms. She could no longer hold herself back.
"Alex?" David said to himself. He still couldn't believe she was there.
"Momma I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry momma, I'm sorry." cried Alex over and over.
"It's okay baby. You're home now. It's okay. Thank you Jesus. Thank you for bringing her home." cried Sheila.
Lene could barely hold in her tears. She just stood and watched her sister with her parents. It was so touching to her. This had been what she always wanted, for her sister to come home.
"How long have you been back?" asked David still trying to hold back his tears.
"I've been back for the past three years." cried Alex still holding onto her mother.
"You sure you're ready to do this?" asked Lene looking over at Alex.
"If I don't do it now, I'll never will." said Alex rubbing her hands.
"Okay, so I'll go in and talk to mom and David and I'll let them know that I have someone that wants to see them."
