Sisqo noticed that Nicole had a smile on her face as he looked over at her while he was driving toward his parents house.
“What are you smiling for?”
“Nothing.”
“You didn’t give him any did you? He looked a little to refreshed!” Sisqo questioned Nicole.
She stared at him. “No! What kinda girl do you think I am?”
“Uh…ah…well you know I don’t think you are that kinda girl! But something did happen, didn’t it?”
“Umm hmmm…” she said as she smiled.
“What? Did he try to make a move? I’ll turn this car around…”
“Calm down….it was nothing…but a kiss!” She said as she looked to see his reaction.
Sisqo bit his lip and Nicole knew he was getting upset.
“Well, It’s your life, Rufus is cool.” Sisqo sighed.
“Finally, the revelation!” She said as she grabbed Sisqo and gave him a kiss on his cheek.
He sucked his teeth.
“He also asked me to be his girl.” Nicole told Sisqo.
Sisqo stared at Nicole. “What did you say?”
“I haven’t made up my mind yet.”
“From the looks of that smile on your face, I think you have!”
“I’m thinking…I do like him…but I’m still going to think about it.”

Rufus was still gaining his composure from the kiss that he and Nicole shared. He stepped into his mother’s
House, the phone rang, and he picked it up.
“Hello.”
“Ru?”
“Yeah!”
“Man, you finally answering the phone? You were dead to the world this morning when I called!”
Rufus recognized Antonio’s voice and started to laugh.
“My bad man! I’ve been a little depressed lately.”
“I understand! But my question is, what or who made you come out of it?”
“Nicole.”
“Nicole?”
“Nicole!”
“You finally hit that? Huh?”
“No, man! She just came and talked to me and cheered me up a little.”
“Umm hmmm!” Antonio laughed.
“Hahahaha! I’m telling the truth.”
“Umm hmmm!” Antonio laughed again.
“Alright, man! We kissed!”
“I knew it ! I know my friend !”
“I can’t help it if your mind is in the gutter twenty-four ten!”
They both laughed.
“Well, I’m glad to hear that you and Nicole are hanging in there.”
“Thanks man! How are you doing?”
“Good, because I have good news!”
“What?”
“Jay’s brother called me and told me that they busted Jared and his crew! They’ll be locked up for a long time.”
Rufus felt relieved. “That was kinda quick!” he replied.
“They got them on some other charges. Concerning me and Virg, they’re still working on that case. But as long as they are locked up and off the street, ain’t nothing going to be popping off!”
“I feel ya, man!” Rufus said.
“Well, I’m not gonna hold you long, so….”
“Nah, wait! Hold up? I gotta ask you something!”
“Whassup man?”
“Well, I don’t know if you heard, but there is a basketball tournament in DC in about a couple of weeks…”
“Uh huh.”
“…and I got invited to play in it.”
“By yourself?”
“Nah with Sisqo and his crew.”
Antonio was silent for a minute, but he responded.
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Because…you are my friend and I wanted to let you know. I wanted to listen to what you had to say before I made my decision.”
“I’m cool with it. I heard they were there for the funeral and what not.”
“Yeah! I’m real cool with them.”
“What did Jay have to say about it?”
“I didn’t talk to him yet.”
“Well, let’s see what he has to say. I’ll call him on a three way.” Antonio got Jay on the line after two tries.
“Tone! What’s up my man!” Jay said.
“Hangin in there man!” Antonio responded.
“What’s up Jay!” Rufus spoke up.
“Hey! My man’s finally out of a coma!” They all laughed.
“Nicole woke him up!” Antonio said.
“Awwww man! You finally hit that?” Jay said.
“No…”
“They kissed!” Antonio said as he made the kissing sound.
“Man, I’mma kick you in your good leg when I see you!” Rufus joked.
“Ouch!” Antonio said.
They all laughed.
“Ru has something to ask you.” Antonio said to Jay.
“What’s up?”
“I got invited to play in this b-ball tournament in DC with Woody and his boys. Do you think I should play?”
Jay was silent for a minute. “It’s your call, man! I know you cool with them and what not!”
“That’s the same thing Tone said!” Rufus replied.
“We are your friends, man. We want the best for you. I’m away and Tone is disabled for a little while. We can’t play. So why should we stop you?”
“ I understand.” Rufus said.
“How much is the prize amount?” Jay asked Rufus.
“Twenty- Five G’s!”
“Whoa!” Antonio and Jay said together.
“Well make sure when you win, hook up a brotha up with a little something!” Antonio joked.
“Remember, It’s getting split five ways!”
“You still can hit me off, man! I don’t care if it’s only ten dollars!” Antonio joked.
“I see you getting back to your old self!” Jay said to Antonio.
“Yeah. Slowly, though!”
“Alright playas! I gotta go! Nice talking to ya! Love you guys! And Rufus?”
“Yeah?”
“Win this one for me and Tone!”
“Yeah!” Antonio said.
“No problem! You know I’m going to hold it down for my crew! Rest in peace Virgil!”
“Rest in peace, Virgil!” Jay and Antonio said together.

The next morning, the phone rang in the Andrews houshold and Nicole picked it up.
“Hello.”
“Nicole?”
“Rufus?”
“Yeah!”
“What’s up? Are you alright?”
“Yeah. How are you?”
“I’m good.”
“I called to speak with Sisqo. Is he around?”
“I’m hurt!” She joked.
“Aww boo, I have all the time in the world to talk to you! This is about business!”
“Okay!”
Just then Sisqo whizzed passed Nicole to get to the refridgerator.
“Sisqo! It’s Rufus on the phone.”
Sisqo grabbed the phone out of her hand. “What’s up.”
“ Hey man! I made my decision. I had to check with my boys first, ya know!”
“Cool. So whatcha gonna do?”
“I’m in. I just need to get back in the rhythm of playing again.”
“Good, good! Hey! We are practicing today at the rec down the street from your moms house. Can you practice today?”
“Yeah! I’m up to it today. What time?”
“At around twelve o’clock.”
“I’m there!” Rufus responded and he asked Sisqo to give the phone back to Nicole.

Jazz, Woody, Sisqo, and Scola were busy practicing. Scola was a little winded at first, but he got back in the groove of things after a little while.
Nokio was late, as usual and Woody took a rest when he came. They still needed someone else to play with them, So it would be even.
“Why don’t you call Nicole?” Woody asked Sisqo.
“Man I don’t know! She let it be known today that she didn’t want to be bothered.”
“Let me call, maybe I’ll convince her!” Jazz said as he picked up his cell phone to make the call. Sisqo just shook his head.
“Hello.” Said Nicole on the line.
“Whatsup Nicole! Can I ask you something?”
“If it involves leaving the house, don’t ask.”
“Please, Nicole! We need you to help us with practice. We need to be even.” Jazz begged.
“I need to rest, my body needs to rest. I ain’t going nowhere.”
Jazz pulled the phone away and whispered to the guys, “She said she ain’t going no where!”
“Let me work my magic!” Scola said as Jazz handed him the phone.
“Nicole, could you pleeease come down here and play! I promise I’ll make it up to you!”
“No.”
“Please?”
“No.”
Sisqo grabbed the phone and made her a deal. “Nicole if you come down here and practice with us today we’ll give you a hundred dollars.”
Nicole thought about it and said, “If ya’ll each give me a hundred dollars, then I’ll practice.”
Sisqo told the fellas what Nicole said and he had to talk them into agreeing.
“That’s if we win right?” Sisqo said.
“If you lose, you still gotta pay half!” Nicole said.
Sisqo sighed. He let the fellas know what Nicole said again.
“Is there anybody else we can call?” Woody asked.
They all looked dumbfounded. “I take that as a no!” Woody replied.
They reluctantly agreed.
“If we paying her that much, her a** is gonna be an alternate!” Nokio said.
Sisqo told Nicole and she agreed and told him that she would be there in twenty minutes. Sisqo thought to himself whether or not it would be a good idea for her to be there with Rufus since he knew what went down between them.

He was right. The second Nicole came into the place, Rufus was distracted. Was it Sisqo or did Nicole have the shortest shorts he ever saw her in. He pulled Jazz and Woody to the side and asked them.
“We’ll there not that short, but he shorts usually come under her knees.” Jazz said.
“Maybe she needs a little more room?” Nokio commented.
“Look at Rufus drooling!” Jazz said and he laughed.
Nicole had on some shorts that were shorter than he usual, just to make Sisqo mad because she wanted to rest that day. She had almost forgot Rufus was there, but those shorts definitely caught his attention.
“Nicole, check Noke. Rufus check Woody.” Sisqo ordered. He did not want Rufus and Nicole to interact.
But everytime Rufus had an opportunity, he made his way over to Nicole. When Sisqo observed this several times, he began to become annoyed.
His frustration showed when he shot the ball and it hit the backboard hard, so hard it flew backward to the other side of the gym.
“What’s up with you man?” Woody said as everyone watched the ball roll into the back corner of the gym.
“Nothing, man!” Sisqo said as he sighed and walked his way to the gym’s bleachers.
