Ice Cube Replacing Diesel In 'XXX' Sequel
Director Of Hit Film Also Opts Out Of Second Installment
Extreme super agent XXX will be back -- but under the guise of actor-rapper Ice Cube.
According to the Hollywood Reporter online, Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen, the star and director of the "XXX," have both opted out of the sequel.
Ice Cube has been tapped by Revolution Studios to star as the next athlete-turned super agent, while "Die Another Day" filmmaker Lee Tamahori will take the director's chair.
Revolution Studios said that all parties involved in the project determined that it was in the best interest of the franchise to introduce a new "XXX" character for each film, according to the Reporter.
Diesel and Cohen will still be executive producers on the project, the Reporter said.
Cube has starred in such films as "Barbershop," "Three Kings" and the "Friday" film series.
In addition to the last James Bond film "Die Another Day,," Tamahori has directed the independent hit "Once Were Warriors" and the thriller "The Edge" starring Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin.
