According to The Magic Box, Nintendo is working on a new mascot for their company. One that is up to date. Something like what Sega did to Sonic when he hit the Dreamcast.
"Nintendo president Satoru Iwata mentioned that they are working on a new mascot character, which will replace both Mario and Pokemon in the future. The reason is that both Mario and Pokemon are no longer up-to-date."
FINALLY! ITS ABOUT TIME THEY CHANGED THAT STUPID LITTLE PLUMBER AND GET A REAL MASCOT! I vote for Kirby!

Xaimara... they are making a new mascot, not making an existing character the new mascot. Besides, if anything, Link is their mascot  Mario is just what they are known for. |
